When it comes to motivating your child to brush their teeth, do you struggle? If so, you’re not alone. Many parents have a hard time motivating their child to brush. Even though this is the case, your child still needs to clean their smile regularly. So, to help you motivate your child, Dr. Neal Emad and our dental team have some tips for you.
Our first tip is to let your child choose a new toothbrush. A new toothbrush might mean a new start for your child. Have them choose a brush that will make brushing more enjoyable, like a brush that has their favorite character or a brush that plays music when they use it. An electric toothbrush might also motivate your child to brush. If you think it will help, you can also let your child select their favorite toothpaste.
Our second tip is to help your child see their toothbrush as a superhero. Tell them that there are little bugs on their smile each day, and if they do not brush their teeth, there is a chance those bugs could hurt the teeth and gums. However, if they brush twice a day, their toothbrush will wash those bugs away and save their smile.
Our third tip is to talk to your child about their favorite treat or candy. Explain that because their favorite treat or candy has high amounts of sugar, they need to keep their smile in tip-top shape if they want to eat them. This means they need to brush twice a day.
